Reprogram Your Garage Door Remote And Codes.

Making sure your new home is secure shouldn't stop at changing the locks. Don't forget to also change the codes on any garage door openers and keypads.

Though you may have received a new set of keys from the realtor, this doesn't mean that you are the exclusive owner of those keys. Before making yourself at home in your new house, call a locksmith to change the locks on all exterior doors — safety always comes first.

Instead of waiting for an accident to happen, get ahead of the game by learning where your emergency shut-off valves are located. Knowing how to quickly deal with a problem will save you a lot of stress and potential damage in the future.

Don't unpack everything in one day, or even one week. It's okay to take your time and adjust to your new surroundings. But if you wait too long - more than three weeks - you may start procrastinating and then there will be many unpacked boxes everywhere. To avoid this, create a timeline for yourself and set specific days/times for when you will unpack certain items. This way, everything will eventually get done!
